Now the summer is finally joining us, we are all frantically planning those beach days with the family, but with restrictions in place across our local beach for dogs throughout the summer, finding a beach to spend the day on with your furry friend can be difficult.
Here we’ve discovered some of the best dog friendly beaches in West Sussex, and are in the process of also finding you the best dog friendly eateries nearby too so you can plan the perfect day out with the whole family!
First on the list is the stunning and relatively local, West Beach in Littlehampton. With no dog restrictions at all, West Beach has something for everyone, sand dunes, the sandiest beach for miles and stunning surroundings and even a dog friendly café at the beginning of the wooden walk way that leads you to the beach!
West Beach also feeds into Climping Beach, another dog friendly beach!
Climping Beach is around an hour’s walk from West Beach but offers seclusion and is a bit of a hidden treasure! A gorgeous expanse of shingle, complete with its own dog friendly car park and café homed within a shipping container a stones throw from the beach!
A little closer to home is Lancing Beach, where there are also no dog restrictions in place and the convieniently dog friendly restaurant; The Perch on Lancing Beach located in prime position between the beach and the green, another great walk for dog lovers who want to stop for a bite to eat too!
A little further along you will discover Shoreham Beach, just as beautiful as the shingled beach in Lancing and free from dog restrictions throughout the year, the only drawback is there isn’t a dog friendly café nearby, so perhaps start your walk in Shoreham and end up at The Perch and get the best out of both beaches!
One of West Sussex’s most beautiful, sandy beaches is of course the famous West Wittering, adorned with beautiful beach huts and miles and miles of sand and sand dunes, West Wittering is a firm family favourite. It does however get incredibly busy during the summer months (pre-booking is now essential) and there are dog restrictions in place around certain areas of the beach at West Wittering; through May-October dogs are not allowed in the Blue Flag Zone (essentially around the area with the beach huts) but does still leave ample space for dogs to enjoy and explore. There is also a dog friendly beach café on the green behind the beach for refreshments for all the family!
A local gem that also deserves a mention is the lovely Ferring Beach and in particular The Bluebird Café, dog friendly, famous for its great food and cakes and in prime location for a dog friendly beach with no restrictions. Again, the dining area can get busy during the hot weather and so a takeaway and a stroll along the shingle may be more preferable!
We are so lucky to have so many dog friendly beaches, with little to no restrictions in place throughout the summer, which one will you try next?
