As summer holidays abroad are being cancelled left, right and centre as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,  we are firm believers that ‘staycay’ is the new ‘vacay’ and so we’ve compiled a selection of our most recommended, family friendly campsites within a 30 mile radius to Worthing, each with their own special something to offer to make those precious family holiday memories.

 Sumners Ponds in Horsham really does have something for everyone.

If you aren’t an avid camper, the site also offers log cabins, shepherd’s huts and camping pods in addition to pitches for tents and caravans.

At the time of writing, current COVID guidelines mean that maximum of three pitches to a group. No more than three tents, caravans, motorhomes, accommodation units or a combination of staying together on site.

There are 4 camping areas at Sumners Ponds; Bluebell Park, Ribbon Park, Sumner’s Park and The Rally Field.

Bluebell Park is the most suitable for families and those with young children as there is a play area adjacent to the Bluebell woods, so a perfect location for families!

Surrounded by a gorgeous lake, stunning woodlands, and state of the art facilities and amenities on site; Sumners Pond is a firm family favourite!

Blacklands Farm, Henfield is situated in the heart of the Sussex countryside and encompasses a back to nature approach, within a beautiful natural setting. The site itself is set within meadows and a gorgeous lake.

Blacklands offers a large play area for children to play in as well as a stunning backdrop to ignite awe and wonder as they explore the parkland or play safely near the water.

Blacklands Farm is also a great location to access idyllic nature walks through the South Downs with Brighton, Hove and Shoreham beaches only a short drive away, you don’t have to stray too far for adventure!

‘Washcamp’ – The Washington Caravan and Camping site was established over 30 years ago ago and is still a family favourite for camping holidays.

The site stretches across two fields to allow for individual needs as well as adhering to social distancing guidelines.

Washcamp also is the perfect place to explore the nearby historical village of Steyning or the picturesque town of Arundel. Looking for something for the kids? Then Southwater Country Park is just around the corner!

The site boasts a range of onsite facilities and amenities and comes recommended year upon year by families.

WoWo campsite near Uckfield is fast becoming one of Sussex’s favourite campsite for families.

With 4 main camping fields to choose from, a woodland area to explore (Tipi Trail) and a stream that runs through the site, what’s not to love about WoWo?!

WoWo even boasts its own ‘village’ on site which comes alive at the weekends, especially during high season and live music is on offer most Saturdays.

Sheltering from the rain? Or looking for a change of scenery, then The Barn is perfect for you! Games, books and magazines are on offer with comfy seating to take 5 away from the buzz of the campsite.

WoWo also offers a Glamping option with a yurt, bell tents, sheperd’s huts and family wagons available to book onsite too.

WoWo couldn’t be more family friendly and even has its own calendar of events for natural, nature and child friendly workshops running throughout peak seasons.

Macs Farm is a working organic egg farm situated in the heart of Ditchling in the South Downs, a family run site with a passion for farm, food and environmental education at the heart, Macs Farm is the perfect location for families.

The Barn Owl field is perfect for families and has capacity for 30 pitches; where the grass is long and wildflowers freely grow, allows for wildlife to remain safe and the perfect setting for natural observation for your little nature lovers.

All of the fields are car free which makes it a safe place for children to play and run freely and also doesn’t damage the fields or surrounding nature.

Each pitch has its own firepit; perfect for roasting marshmallows or cooking breakfast on in the morning.

A vintage marquee is erected on the farm to allow you to shelter from the rain or meet friends and family, equipped with tables and chairs.

Macs Farm is the perfect location for families, and you can even go and visit and feed the chickens who provide the eggs available to buy on site too!

Hale Farm is situated in the heart of the Sussex countryside, in Lewes.

The site is the perfect place for families with spacious fields and pitches, amazing nearby links, amenities and nature walks, but even better, the site is also home to a range of friendly farm animals for you to meet and befriend during your stay.

Opportunities to feed the ducks, geese and chickens is sure to be a highlight of the trip!

Hale Farm is situated in the perfect location with nearby access to Drusillas Park, Knockhatch, Abbots Wood and the Bluebell Railway.

Ouse Meadow Campsite near Uckfield operate a small scale, relaxed and laid-back approach to camping, campfires and dogs are permitted which enable this site to be a real family friendly, accessible and enjoyable place to rest and recharge. You’ll love the open air hot showers, rope swings in the trees, hammocks and chilled-out vibe!

‘Little Brooks’ meadow is a stunning place for children to explore and frolic in the stream.  It’s very shaded and shallow so perfect for a dip on a hot day.

Local attractions include the Bluebell Railway (literally over the road!), National Trust Gardens and Ringwood Toll Nature Trail.

Scotts Farm is situated in the idyllic West Wittering area with direct links to the beach and the local seaside village, it’s the perfect location for a British Summer Holiday.

The campsite itself is spacious and family friendly with a large children’s play area and a stone’s throw away from the beach, with plenty of lifeguards on hand to ensure the upmost enjoyment and safety.

With Portsmouth, Chichester and Goodwood within a 20-mile radius, Scotts Farm is the perfect base for some South Coast exploration.

StoneyWish Campsite in Ditchling truly encompasses the magic of camping in the country, promising bats at moonlight and the dawn chorus to wake up to; Stoneywish are currently operating a reduced capacity in light of Covid19 but has everything you need for a family-friendly staycation; from large meadows that adjoin to the village recreation ground, as well as direct access to the nature reserve.

The Secret Campsite is a beautiful hidden gem just near Lewes which offers fantastic facilities and camping options to campers such as Grid Shells, Tree Tents (how cool is that!), solar-powered hot showers, electric car charging point, flushing toilets, washing area with lots of hot water, fridge and freezer, loads of wheelbarrows for transferring gear, firewood and more.  

The site offers a very reasonable re-book policy if you or they need to change your booking due to unforeseen circumstances.

One of our favourite camping offerings is provided by Pegs and Pitches which has sites near Battle in East Sussex and Haywards Heath in West Sussex.  We’ve stayed in the beautifully and fully equipped bell tents at Wild Boar Wood many times and are never disappointed with our visit!   

Whilst we are all disappointed that our usual summer holidays abroad have been postponed or cancelled this year, it’s clear to see we have an array of stunning local hidden gems that the whole family can enjoy and precious memories can be made.
